Jens Sorensen

May 27, 1938--May 2, 2022

Jens Sorensen, 83, passed away on May 2, 2022 at a Des Moines hospital.

Jens Sorensen was born May 27, 1938. He graduated from the Iowa School for the Deaf in 1958, where he met his wife, Madeline Hovinga 62 years ago. After marriage, they devoted their time to raising their five children at Fort Dodge, Humboldt and Des Moines, Iowa.  Jens worked as a commercial printer in the respective cities until his early retirement due to his genetic blindness.

He used to be a Sign Language newsletter business manager for several years.

He became an advocate for Iowa Deaf-Blind people.

His wife passed away in August 2013. 

Left to cherish Jens' memory is his five children; Jarvey (Bonnie) Sorensen, Juliane (Jeff) Mc Donald, Jeremy Sorensen, Juanita (Bob) Mendenhall, and Jayne (Steve) Stoutenberg. Fourteen Grandchildren and numerous Great-Grandchildren.
