Maurice DeWayne Lantz

March 9, 1942 - November 5, 2016

Maurice DeWayne Lantz, age 74, of Remsen, Iowa, formerly of Council Bluffs, passed away November 5, 2016 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen.

DeWayne was born March 9, 1942 in Hillsboro, Iowa to the late Stanley and Verlee (Morrison) Lantz.  He graduated from Iowa School for the Deaf in 1961.  After his graduation, DeWayne went to work as a typesetter for the Eldora Herald in Eldora, Iowa from 1961-1974.  He then took a job as a typesetter for Lindenborger Type in Dubuque from 1974-1981.  DeWayne moved to Council Bluffs in 1983 and was a houseparent and computer tech at Iowa School for the Deaf and also worked at West Iowa Tool.  He then worked for Mount Pleasant Plastics before moving to Fairfield, Iowa where he worked for H and H Mold from 1984 to 2008 and part-time at H and H Mold from 2008-2011.  DeWayne earned his Tool and Die Making Diploma from Iowa Western Community College in 1985.  He married Linda Lee Riggs Bates on August 20, 1988 in Council Bluffs.

He was a member of the Council Bluffs Silent Club and Iowa Association of the Deaf; organized the deaf picnic in Fairfield for many years; avid collection foe railroad memorabilia and train photographer.  DeWayne loved to tell jokes and play pranks.  He loved to make people laugh.  DeWayne was fascinated by technology, such as Blackberry, the Smart Watch, Global Position System (GPS), cameras, computers and more.

In addition to his parents, DeWayne was preceded in death by his son, Steve Bates and brother, Roland Lantz.

DeWayne is survived by his wife Linda Lantz of Le Mars, Iowa, several grandchildren and one great-grandchild, sister, Phyllis "Pat" Newbold of Tecumseh, MI; brother Darrell "Butch" (Pat) Lantz of Roy, WA, nephew, Jim (Denise) Newbold of Springfield, MO; several other nieces and nephews; stepsons, Brian (Kathy) Bates of Griswold, IA, Kevin (Dacia) Bates of Merrill, IA, Aaron (Megan) Bates of Griswold, IA.

Memorial Service was held at at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer Woodring Funeral Home and Crematory, 545 Willow Ave., Council Bluffs, IA 51503. starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016.

Private family burial will be held at a later date at Hillsboro, Iowa.
