The body was cremated prior to funeral services. Funeral service was held last Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home.
Janet was born in Fort Smith, AR to Kenneth Covey and Frances Radin (Weston) on August 23, 1943. She graduated from high school in 1961 and went on to attend Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington, D.C. where she met her husband Bub. She worked as a data entry specialist for First National Bank and as an American Sign Language instructor for Southeast Community College. She was actively involved in the Lincoln Association of the Deaf, serving as Secretary and also as a delegate to the Midwest Athletic Association of the Deaf. In recognition of her many contributions to the deaf community, she received a lifetime achievement award from the Lincoln Association of the Deaf. She served as Secretary for the Nebraska Association of the Deaf and was appointed to two terms as a Commissioner with the Nebraska Commission for the Hearing Impaired (now known as the Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing), serving from 1994 to 2000. She enjoyed attending Joy Club, playing in the Bell Choir and learning all she could about the lives of those around her.
