Lawrence "Larry" James Boyd

October 20, 1953 - November 15, 2016

Lawrence “Larry” James Boyd, 63, had to leave this earth far too early on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 after a long struggle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Larry grew up in Council Bluffs, IA and received degrees from Morningside College and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He met the love of his life at Morningside, and they married on May 13, 1978. Larry was an educator in the fields of mathematics and computer technology, and worked in various capacities throughout Nebraska, Texas, and Iowa, most notably at the Iowa School for the Deaf and Iowa Central Community College. Larry could be found playing slow pitch softball and tennis, and was an avid fan of most sports. His love of athletics compelled him to be a coach for his children in softball and basketball – a role he was absolutely passionate about. He was also an active member at First United Methodist Church. Larry was a lifelong teacher and coach, whose sense of humor and quiet kindness made a difference in the lives of all who knew him.

He will be missed dearly by his wife Connie, children Leah (Jeff) Challberg and Luke (Dena), and siblings Tom (Cheryl), Dave (Shelley), & Connie (Jim) Carroll. Larry was preceded in death by parents William “Bill” & Irene Boyd, and brother Robert “Bob” Boyd.

Services to honor his life was held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. A family burial would be near Plover, Iowa.

Thanks to Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Patrick & Dorene Sell and Kendall Steele for the information.
